4- The Outlier Project. By now you’ve probably heard of Malcolm Gladwell’s new book Outliers

. In it he says, “To become a grandmaster also seems to take about ten years. And what’s ten years? Well, it’s roughly how long it takes to put in ten thousand hours of hard practice. Ten thousand hours is the magic number of greatness.” If he is right, I better get moving!!

The Outlier Project will be my attempt to log some extra hours to get to greatness more quickly. Kind of like extra credit. You’ll see short videos that I create to practice working with different cameras, learn Final Cut pro, etc.  I encourage you to start logging your 10,000 hours too.

I went to visit my friend Ethan in Buenos Aires in December and he has been bugging me to share some of my videos of Iguazu Falls, which is northern Argentina.

Iguazu is incredible. The Falls are taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide. They border Brazil and Argentina. We stayed on the Argentine side because we didn’t have a travel visa to go to Brazil. Someone told us Brazil does this to get us back for requiring them to have visas. download Acolytes dvd Here’s Don setting up the lights for my interview with the fabulous actress Stacie Capone and with him, the wonderful Don Downie. How this for a one man band? Don showed me how to set up the camera and the lights and framed the shot. Then, he got into frame and answered all my questions about low budget filmmaking. What you don’t see in the photo is the ridiculously good twist on chicken pot pie topped with phyllo dough that Stacie made for the 3 of us. Mmmmm.
